As strange as this might sound, in early 2002 my mind was
set for owning a northern breed dog and this was absolutely
under no influence from film, books, or friend alike; in
fact I did not know anyone that had a husky, just the result
of a strange mysterious urge that sets like glue in your
mind with the will to fulfil… |

After researching into northern dog types and selecting a
Siberian Husky as my first northern dog, my next step was
convincing my wife Donna in owning one, which proved to be
unsuccessful, so I went ahead and purchased my first
Siberian Husky from Mike & Terry Brent (Dreamcatcher) in
late summer of 2002. On returning home with her and just
after one day of having her, I caught Donna on the floor
playing with our new founded family member, strange how a
cute bundle of fur can change one’s decision. |

One year later, my eagerness to run sled dogs in harness was
growing, so we joined the Siberian Husky Club of Great
Britain and participated in there teach-in day, where owners
with one or two dogs had the opportunity to pair up together
and run there dogs in harness pulling a wheeled rig. From
here on the year 2003 and after enjoying the teach-in so
much, we purchased another Sibe from Dreamcatcher along with
one that I borrowed to start running in the two dog class
for racing season 2003-2004, and to where the Mushing
addition grows… |

The end of racing season 2003-2004 proved to be the kennels
milestone in evolution, and not to put too much of a fine
point on it, mine to as a musher. During the later part of
this season I had been training with a new founded friend at
our local forest, who had a number of Siberian Huskies based
on the Harris Dunlap racing lines. At the end of the season
and with great appreciation, I had the opportunity to run
four of these huskies on a training run one Sunday morning
and could not believe there eagerness to run in harness and
there stamina to continue running, my mind was set herein on
a future racing agenda with many thanks to a important
friend. |

Finally I just like to mention that although Donna my wife
does not run any of the dogs in harness, her involvement,
help and love for them at the kennel and at race meetings is
very important and much appreciated. Like myself, she could
not imagine life without them, especially her white favoured
Sibe… |
